Paris, Once Again

Back in Paris again for work…
The timing is a bit bad, with it being Ramadan and all… but well…

I got here yesterday on an Air France flight; and guess what they’ve changed their Arabic in-flight instructions. I don’t know if this post of mine has anything to do with it or not, anyway it’s good to see they’ve changed them; they’ve got good proper/classic Arabic ones now.

I’ll be in Paris for a week, so basically I’ll be doing the usual stuff: working, cinema going, book shopping, eating, and getting some gifts for my wife and son.

In addition to all that I’ll finally be buying a DSLR Camera, a Canon 350D, and on the same note, I’ll be going to “Salon de la Photo” which will be held from 3rd

Fifth Wedding Anniversary

On a day like today, exactly five years ago, I got married to the one girl I ever fell in love with and who actually made me feel like settling down; my one and only Eman.

Before meeting her, I never even thought about marriage; I was very happy on my own, having all the fun in the world; And then, we met, and it just hit me: I want to spend the rest of my life with her.

Now, five great years after our wedding day, I’m even more sure of it; we’ve come a long way, we’ve gone through many events, we’ve accomplished many things, and we now have a handsome one-year old baby boy who, even though naughty, makes this life even more worth living.

To my sweet and lovely wife: “Love” is but a fraction of the feelings I have for you. Thank you for making my life as beautiful and complete as it is today.

Ramadan Mabrouk

Ramadan starts tomorrow in Tunisia, and in most Arab & Muslim countries as well.

It’s a month of fasting, praying, reading the Koran and worship for some people; and a month of eating, sleeping, watching TV, and eating some more for others.

So to everyone, no matter what this month ahead means to them exactly, I’d like to wish you a blessed Ramadan; and may it be a happy and great month for you all.

I’ll be fasting as usual, and again I’ll be trying to start and stick to praying, hoping that this time it will work.

Take it easy on the food and TV everyone.

What Do You Like/Dislike About Subzero Blue?

I think there are two main kinds of passionate bloggers in the world: the kind that write for themselves and the kind that write for their readers.

Personally, I think I’m a mix of the two, I write for myself and for my blog’s readers at the same time.

And even though I do get your feedback on individual blog items from time to time, I wanted to go ahead and ask you in general what things you like and what other things you dislike about this blog?

I’m really interested in knowing: what kinds of posts you enjoy the most or find the most informative or useful? whether you come back a number of times per day and like it when I post several times or whether you pass by only once and would like to find just one good post waiting for you? what you think about the design? what keeps you coming back and what frustrates you about Subzero Blue?

Please do share your thoughts and ideas, and if you have any suggestions do not hesitate to let me know too, I would greatly appreciate them.

Happy First Birthday Adam

Exactly one year ago, on a hot Tunisian summer day like this one, August 28th, I witnessed the amazing miracle of life when our beautiful baby boy “Adam” was born into this world.

It was an overwhelming breath-taking moment for me, one that I will never forget for as long as I live, the rush of mixed feelings that went through me at the moment of my child’s birth is something I simply can’t put into words, and the changes inside of me that resulted from those few seconds are ones that will be with me for eternity.

I became a father, my life changed forever, the center of the universe shifted in a split second, and it all started to rotate around this little baby boy; I promised myself I’d do everything to be the best father in the world to this child.

Now a year has passed, a great magnificent beautiful year, a year spent watching our baby grow into a smart, naughty, little handsome boy; who can with a simple smile or laugh turn my whole life upside down, wipe away any sort of stress or unease the world throws at me; and who can fill my heart with happiness and joy at the smallest little action or achievement he does.

I can’t even begin to describe the feelings and love I have for this child, I could easily claim that I worship him and I wouldn’t be overstating things.

Happy Birthday Adam… Congratulations on your first birthday, I can’t wait for the days, months and years ahead of us and all the fun and happiness that await us in them.

I can’t but thank Eman, my beautiful beloved wife, who is also a great and amazing mother, for every single little thing and for being all that she is. My life has been blessed since you walked into it my dearest.

Finally, here’s a photo of the birthday boy with some of his gifts:

Adam - First Birthday

We didn’t plan anything big for his birthday really, just the usual small stuff; but his grandparents obviously had different plans, and it turned out they invited all my aunts, uncles and cousins and turned it into a party at their place.

My Corner Of The Earth

Like every humming bird and bumblebee
Every sunflower, cloud and every tree
I feel so much a part of this
Nature’s got me high and it’s beautiful
I’m with this deep eternal universe
From death until rebirth

This corner of the earth is like me in many ways
I can sit for hours here and watch the emerald feathers play
On the face of it I’m blessed
When the sunlight comes for free
I know this corner of the earth it smiles at me

My corner of the earth, the corner that I know so well, that I feel knows me and smiles at me, where I feel in perfect balance with nature is in Bizerte, my hometown, at La Grotte, Corniche; a point where the mountain meets the sea, creating the best place to have a refreshing swim or watch the most romantic sunset; simple perfect bliss.

Where’s your special corner of the earth?

New Or Improved Stuff On The Blog

These past two days I’ve been playing around with a couple of things on the blog, some really minor design changes and some new stuff; I thought I’d just put up this little post to tell you about them.

Featured Entries: On the middle-right column, a little block with 10 featured entries has been added. Here you will find some of the most interesting posts on Subzero Blue over the past years.

Asides: Also, on the middle-right column, you’ll find the last 5 of the most interesting links that I’ve come across while surfing the web and that I thought I’d share with you. A feed is available for these links for access to all the links: Asides Feed.

Previously…: Just below the current entries, you’ll find a list of the 15 previous entries on Subzero Blue. This has been on for quite some time now, but I just changed its design a bit.

That’s about it, the rest are too small as changes to even mention.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, please do share, I appreciate your help.

The Top 10 Super Powers I’d Love To Have

Obviously watching “Heroes” has gotten to my head and put me into the whole super hero and super powers mood again.

So I thought I’d post a list of the Top 10 super powers I’d love to have. Here it goes:

1. Time & Space Bending: Moving back and forth in time, here and there in space; this would rock big time

2. Shape shifting: Becoming whoever/whatever I want to become at anytime, so cool, the possibilities are endless.

3. Telekinesis: I actually tried to move objects with my mind when I was younger, but obviously it didn’t work out for me, still it’s a great power to have.

4. Flight: I don’t think anything could match the feeling of flying freely in the open skies over stretches of land; I’d just love to experience it.

5. Invisibility: Being invisible would just be so cool, another level of great freedom; and coupled with the next superpower it just gives you unlimited options.

6. Walking through walls and objects: With this superpower, you’re simply unstoppable, you go anywhere you want in the shortest way possible; no door is a closed door for you.

7. Telepathy: Having the ability to read people’s thoughts is a great power; even though I prefer being able to turn it off whenever I want, and just using it when I need it.

8. Molecular manipulation: It’d be so cool to be able to change any object to another by manipulating its molecular structure. Would come in very handy.

9. Invulnerability: Of course being unbreakable and untouchable is always a cool super power to have.

10. Water breathing: I’m a Pisces, and I sometimes feel that my natural habitat is water, I am most relaxed when in water, so having the ability to breathe underwater would certainly be an amazing thing for me, to enjoy the beauty of the sea and ocean worlds magical.

Subzero Blue In Jordan’s Pulp Magazine

Jordan based Pulp Magazine published a list of the “Most Popular Blogs In Jordan”; people who are showing Jordan in a more interesting light.

And guess what? Subzero Blue is on the list.

The entry goes as follows: “He’s Tunisian, but he used to live in Jordan — He touches on all that is interesting around the world during his travels.”

I’d like to thank Pulp Magazine for including me on their list, it’s really a pleasure, I’m flattered.

How I Say Numbers (And Why It’s Better)

A number of people I know have told me that they find the way I give them phone numbers or reference numbers is a bit weird.

I’ll explain, take the following number for example: 75468916

Most people would say it this way for example: Seventy five, four hundred sixty eight, nine hundred and sixteen; or some variance of that, grouping each two or three numbers together.

When it comes to me, it’s: Seven, five, four, six, eight, nine, one, six.

Because of the many times I’ve had people comment on my way of saying numbers, I’m posting to prove that my way is better, more efficient and even easier. I’ll be using some basic computer science concepts in here, drawing parallels to how I think our human brain would stock and retrieve this information.

Well, first of all, I understand that people group numbers because it makes it easier for them to remember these numbers. But when you come to think of it, it’s not a really wise use of memory space, because the grouped version is only a pointer towards the simple version which is a series of numbers. So what you end up with is the person’s name being a pointer to the grouped version which is a pointer to the simple version; that’s a waste of memory space.

Another issue is that everytime you want to read a number like that or try to recall it from memory in that way there’s some wasted processing time trying to find the best way to group the numbers; some people are faster than others but no matter how unnoticed it goes, there is a little lag, as you put some brain processing cycles to work on something useless.
The same goes for the receiving end when hearing a number, you’re forcing their brain to process the number to break it into the simple version, so you’re not only wasting your brain processing cycles but other people’s too.

Imagine when you’re saying the number in another language like French for example, where a number like 78 is actually said as follows: Sixty, Ten, Eight. That wastes even more time in processing and storing.

I believe that if in the end the number is going to be stored in its simple version and then retrieved for use in its simple version, then you should just stock it (remember it) and transfer it (say it, pass it) in its simple version.

It takes a bit of getting used to to optimize your brain to stock the information that way and index it well, but I find it to be a lot faster, more efficient and simpler.
