Divine Intervention

The Palestinian movie “Divine Intervention” by Elia Sulayman has qualified for consideration for nomination for next year?s best foreign film Oscar.

The film, which took the jury prize at Cannes in 2002, tells the politically explosive story of life under Israeli occupation, told in vignettes of reality and fantasy.

This is the first time a Palestinian movie has qualified, and it was accepted despite some earlier speculation that the Academy would not take the submission on the grounds that “Palestine is not a country”.

I haven’t seen this movie yet, although friends of mine who saw it strongly recommended it.
I hope it wins the Oscar, and that i get to see it soon.

Scary Movie 3

So Scary Movie 3 is coming out soon, that should be cool…

I love movies that spoof other movies, they’re so much fun, and you also feel how much of a movie addict you are when you know each and every movie they’re spoofing, lol…
Although i can imagine how dull they must be to people who didn’t see any of the movies.

I expect this one will be even better than the previous ones because it has a cool cast which also includes Charlie Sheen & Leslie Nielsen.
It’s a shame that the Wayan bros aren’t in this one though.

The Passion

I really don’t get it why some Jews are so mad about Mel Gibson’s new movie “The Passion” (now called: The Passion Of Christ).

They say the movie suggests Jews were responsible for Christ’s death.
so ? where’s the wrong in that ? it’s totally true…
It’s even written in the bible, which was used as a reference while making the movie.

In fact, not only were Jews behind the death of Jesus, they were also behind the deaths of a number of their other prophets.

I think it’s totally hypocritical of them to criticize this movie.
Why is it that they can make movie after movie about Nazis stating that it’s freedom of speech and art, and then stand in front of this movie that’s just telling the story of Christ’s final hours as they are known to be, and say that it’s against Jews.

It’s not against Jews, it’s the true facts of what happened.
There’s a big difference…

New Inspector Clouseau: Steve Martin?

It appears that MGM favor Steve Martin for the role of Inspector Clouseau in a remake of the 1964 movie “Pink Panther”.

In the original, Peter Sellers was the star French detective, and man was he awesome !
I totally loved the movie and the sequels that followed.
Peter Sellers was a comedy genius, and just seeing his face makes you laugh your butt off.

I quite like Steve Martin too and i think he could do a good job in the role, if he takes it that is, but in my opinion i don’t think he’d be able to totally fill the big shoes Peter Sellers left behind.

Hugo The Hippo

I just finished re-watching this old animated movie I recorded off Zimbabwe TV when I was a kid, it?s called “Hugo The Hippo” and I used to love it.
So yesterday when we were visiting my parents, I picked up this video tape and a number of others I remember loving in my childhood, and brought them with me, so my wife and I could watch them together.

This animated movie of course is nowhere close to today’s animated features in terms of quality and all, but the story is beautiful and the soundtrack is amazing.
After all these years, I still remember every scene and every lyric to every song, it’s incredible.

It?s the story of a little hippo with all it’s ups and downs, with all it’s sad and happy moments, and the message behind it all is how people can be so selfish and how they should pay more attention to animals and treat them fairly and not just use them for their own benefit and then throw them.

It’s a beautiful movie with a wonderful message, and I wish someone like Pixar would remake it and give more people the chance to see it and be touched by it, just like I was by this old version.

Tarantino wants Bond

Moviemaker Quentin Tarantino says he wants to make a James Bond film (Casino Royale, the first James Bond novel) and believes he could “do it the right way”.

As someone who actually really likes Tarantino’s movies, ideas and directing style, i think he could pull off a very interesting and exciting Bond movie and something very different from what we got used to from the Bond franchise up to now, but it remains to be seen if the series producers would like to see a change in formula, and if the fans can take it.

I’m one of the Bond fans who thinks a Tarantino Bond would be a really cool experiment.

Daredevil

After resisting watching it for a long time because of a prejudgment that it would suck, I finally saw Daredevil, and well I was proved wrong.
But how would I know ?
I just tried to imagine Ben Affleck playing the role of a blind superhero, and it just didn

Bend it like Beckham

I saw “Bend it like Beckham” yesterday evening, and i have to say it was quite better than i expected.

It’s a light and fun movie to watch about an English Indian girl who wants to play football like David Beckham, and who faces strong opposition from her parents for it.

The situations at home with her mom and dad are the ones i liked best, they’re really true to the spirit all parents share, especially when they’re defending their culture and their traditions.

Return Of The King

Just saw the trailer of Lord Of The Rings : Return Of The King on the official site.

From that and some preview material i saw on the DVD of The Two Towers, it looks like it’s gonna be one hell of a movie, and so much better and more exciting than the first two.

God, i can’t wait to see it…
