Subzero Blue Offline

Well, as some must have noticed, Subzero Blue (this blog) was offline during most of Dec. 15 & part of Dec. 16.

This downtime was on purpose, and as a manifestation of this blog’s everlasting support for a very important cause !

Oh, ok, i’m lying, loool…
I do strongly support a lot of important causes fully, but i regret to say that the downtime was for purely technical problems this time.
It was a problem with the hosting and all.
Anyway, thanks to Houssein (THE MAN), we’re up again on a new host; faster, better and stronger.

Saddam Hussein Down

So Saddam Hussein has finally been captured.

I was a bit surprised and shocked by the news yesterday, not because i like Saddam, but because i wasn’t expecting him to be caught at all.

Anyway, i think it’s good he was caught and that he will be put on trial for all the crimes he did. I knew a lot of people in Jordan who were from Iraq, and i’ve heard my share of stories about life in Iraq and how Saddam and his sons were treating the people.
Of course, there were equally as much stories about the disastrous life people were living because of what the US did to them and because of it’s sanctions.

After months and months of search, he’s been caught, giving the US administration something to try and brag about.
BUT, wait a second, this whole war wasn’t about Saddam in the first place, it was about weapons of mass destruction. Weapons that were never found and never will be.
So even though it’s good that Saddam is gone, it doesn’t change the fact that the war was one big lie, and that they’re trying to cover it up by using Saddam as a scapegoat.

The only problem is that catching him nearly means nothing; from what the news are saying attacks are still happening, Iraq is still one big mess, the people still want the US to get out of there (people of both the US & Iraq) !
So, it seems like it’s no big deal, just a big media story, but one that means nothing at all.

Miserable Failure

Houssein told me about this when we met in Tunis, but he forgot the exact words, anyway today while surfing around, i found it.

Anger Management + Me

I rented the DVD for Anger Management last night, and I have to say that it’s the best Adam Sandler movie as yet, and in fact the best Comedy movie I’ve seen this year.
The movie is totally side-cracking hilarious, and I’ve already seen it twice.

Adam Sandler & Jack Nicholson are a great match. And John Turturro is amazing, he steals every scene he’s in and never fails to break me into laughter.

Everything in this movie is perfectly put together to make a fun and very enjoyable movie experience. A true must see.

Other than a great laugh and lots of fun, there’s something else I came out with from this movie, and that’s a diagnostic of myself 😛
The character of Buddy (played by Jack Nicholson) explains: “There is explosive and implosive anger. Explosive anger is the guy in the supermarket yelling at the cashier for not taking his coupons. Implosive anger is the cashier meekly submitting to his abuse — until one day he calmly shoots everyone in the store.”

And well, when thinking of it, I found out I’m of the implosive type.
Ok, I’ve known that about myself for a long time 😛

Macromedia Central

Today, i finally got around to uninstalling the beta developer release of Macromedia Central, and installing the final release of it for a spin.

I think the idea behind Central is a really good one, and one that holds a lot of potential if it catches on with more and more developers.
The idea of a rich client interface based on Flash running outside the browser mainly offline and partially online (to get data), is a really catchy one, and i for one can think of a load of ideas for applications that can be run inside Central.
I’m already wondering what my first Central app should be 🙂

I didn’t write about this before when i played around with the beta because i wanted to wait for the final release to come out and see some of the applications that will be created for it.

And well, a really interesting application i found with it is BlogReader 😉 It’s all flash of course, and coming from Macromedia, it has to look good.
I’m still exploring it functionality-wise though, but who knows, this might become my default RSS reader soon 😉
My dream of yesterday coming true today ?! I hope 🙂

Paradise

Two people are lost in the desert. They are dying from hunger and thirst. Finally, they come to a high wall. On the other side they can hear the sound of a waterfall and birds singing. Above, they can see the branches of a lush tree extending over the top of the wall. Its fruit look delicious.

One of them manages to climb over the wall and disappears down the other side. The other, instead, returns to the desert to help other lost travelers find their way to the oasis.

Moral of the story: Paradise is nothing without others to share it with.

The Search for the One RSS Reader

A while back, with a growing number of news sites and blogs to keep up with piling up in my favourites and blogroll, i thought it was about time i got myself a good RSS reader.

I started by trying out NewsDesk, which i didn’t like, although i don’t really remember why, i just know it didn’t click for me.

After it i tried FeedDemon by Nick Bradbury, which is pretty good, but still in Beta, so i have to wait for that till it’s done.

Now, i’m actually using SharpReader, which is quite a good program, and does what it’s supposed to do well enough.
I just wish the interface looked a bit better, and had more eye candy 🙂

And, i’m about to try out another one called FeedReader, which looks like the one i’m using right now but with a slightly better interface.

So, basically, i’m still on the search for the one great RSS reader that will blow my mind, and provide me with a slick beautiful interface and all sorts of different functionalities.
So, if you know of anything that fits the above description, please let me know about it by posting a comment to this.

Update: I tried FeedReader, and well it does look better than SharpReader, and for a couple of seconds, it got my hopes high, but then the problems started, and i had to kill the process from task manager. So i chose to uninstall it and stick to my stable SharpReader until i find something better.
Anyway, i’ll be checking FeedReader again, when it’s more stable. I think it holds some promise.
