10 Simple Rules To Help The Environment
Today is Blog Action Day, and I thought I'd use this day to post 10 simple rules that we can all apply in our everyday lives to help our environment.
Of course there are more than 10 things we can all do, and we should do, but well we can start with these really easy ten, and then move on step by step.
So here goes the list:
1. Take showers rather than baths: This way you’ll conserve water, as well as the electricity needed to heat up the water.
2. Walk to places instead of driving whenever you can: It's healthy for you and you get to reduce the amount of fuel you use.
3. Unplug unused appliances: Whenever you're not using something, just unplug it, as most appliances still consume some energy while in standby mode.
4. Use energy efficient light bulbs: They consume less electricity, thereby they're better for the environment and for your pocket when the bill hits you.
5. Turn off unused lights: If you're not in a room, then the light should be off in that room, even if for a couple of minutes, simple and straightforward.
6. Recycle / Seperate your recyclables: Don't put all your leftovers together, seperate the recyclable stuff. Most countries have recycling programs for plastics and papers.
7. Use less disposables: Try to steer away from all those disposable plastic bags, paper napkins, cups, plates ...etc.
8. Buy recycled products: Whenever you're buying something and there's an alternative made of recycled materials, go for the recycled version.
9. Inflate your tires: Under-inflated tires will make you consume more fuel and shorten the life of your tires. So always check their pressure and fill them up to the recommended pressure.
10. Raise awareness: Tell your family and friends about the problems our environment is facing and how they too can make a change by adjusting the smallest of things in their life routines.
