European Union Punishing Palestinians For Democracy

“It’s not acceptable to punish the Palestinian people. We cannot say to the Palestinians: ‘it’s good being democratic and at the same time we punish you’. The EU must find a mechanism to get aid to the people…”

Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority

After the US, the European Union moves to stop payments to the Hamas-led government in Palestine.

So, yeah, it’s good to be democratic as long as you choose who they want you to choose. Simple.

  1. It’s very hypocrite from the west to behave this way.

Canada through its new conservative (mini Bush) prime minister, has been the first country to withdraw its finnancial assistance to The Plaestinian Authority.

However, on the other hand, why Hamas doesn’t renounce violence and recognize the state of Israel!?? Not with its current borders, but at least the concept of the state of Israel.

Peace can only be seen when the two countries of Paletine and Israel live together as neighbours.

    Long road
    A.

  2. People always ask : why Hamas doesn’t recognize the state of Israel!?
We can return the question and ask : why Israel, as a “democratic”, “civilized” and responsible State doesn’t recognize the Hamas and the state of Palestine!?.. just to set an example to follow… it could certainly unfreeze the issue, but the real question is : does israel really want the peace ?
