"Tunis City" Mall Opening Soon
Tunisia's newest and largest shopping mall yet, under the name "Tunis City", will be opening on September 29, 2005.
It is situated at the beginning of the Bizerte highway, just after the Ennahli national park, on the outskirts of Tunis.
"Tunis City" will include a 12,000 square meter supermarket, which is under the Géant franchise that belongs to the French Casino group, a shopping mall of 80 brand-name outlets, eight fast-food locations and a food-court with a capacity of 600 seats, two gourmet restaurants and a leisure center including an open air play space for children.
The parking area will initially accomodate up to 2,500 cars and is scheduled for expansion.
I've passed by it a few times on my way to Bizerte or Ghar El Melh, and I confirm it is the biggest mall in Tunisia up to now. One thing I don't understand though is why, just like Carrefour, they've chosen to build it as a one level building that eats up a lot of space? Why didn't they build it vertically as a multi-storied building leaving a smaller footprint?
Why am I impassionately waiting for it to open?
Because Carrefour has become a nightmare to shop in, as has as every other shopping center in the country.
Hopefully this mall will ease the pressure a bit.
I can't help but wonder where people get the money to keep these malls crowded and their cashiers busy all the time, it's amazing!
I've already saw that many times, I think that I also posted an "under construction" photo, seems interting and it's gonna trouble our shopping instinct, and about me champion stores are some meters near by and I don't like to move farther :)
