Asian Tsunami Help
The latest death toll from the Asian tsunami has risen dramatically to more than 56,000 [Update 29/12/04: Now it's over 80,000] [Update 31/12/04: Now it's over 120,000].
More countries are reporting casualties from the killer waves, spawned by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake that struck off the western-most portion of the northern Indonesian island of Sumatra early on Sunday.
The devastation stretches from Thailand to East Africa, where the United Nations reports that entire villages have been washed away.
Islamic Relief has launched an appeal to raise €1,000,000 for the affected population. An initial €200,000 has been allocated for relief intervention in the region and to help rehabilitate victims of the disaster. A further €20,000 of emergency aid will be sent to affected people in Sri Lanka.
Donations are accepted online or through cheques or bank transfers.

Love and greetings from Rev.S.Maria Victor, Founder and Managing Trustee of NEST (Navadeepam Educational Social Trust) registered under Government of India.
The main thing I am writing this letter is about Tsunami that worst hit Tamil Nadu, mainly Nagapattnam, Velankanni, Cuddalore, Kaniyakumari and Madras. I hope by this time you must have got the news through Television. Here we all are experiencing the worst disaster that has ever affected humanity. Everywhere there is sadness all around. The most affected area is the place, which is religious shrine of Vellankani where thousands of pilgrims had made a visit. The death toll in whole of Tamil Nadu has risen to 15,000 in reality while the official figures are showing less in numbers.
Nest being a social organization had immediately made a visit to one of the affected Nagapattnam (Vellankani) (80 kms from Trichy) areas with my co-coordinators. We have distributed 3000 bread packets and drinking water bottles, mates, cloths, Rise and vegetables and medicine. NEST being a small Organization we are finding it difficult to meet the huge requirements. The need of the hour is medicine for the people as there is a strong caution of outbreak of epidemics because of the decaying bodies and unhealthy environment.
I don’t know how to share with you my heart is filled with sorrow whenever I close my eyes. I feel pity for thousand of innocent children who have become orphans in this disaster. They are so young that they are unable to make out what exactly is happening. Their wandering eyes are searching for their parents. There is no one to feed them and take care of them. We all are haunted by the same questions: Why God brought such a disaster in everybody’s life? Why God was so angry? What wrong has happened that has upset the nature so much?
Since I had already bought a land 3 years before it will be good for us to start the Orphanage for these Tsunami victims. I humbly ask your kind self to please consider it urgently as we are planning to take some 50 orphan boys and girls in the age group of 05 –15 from Tsunami hit areas. Therefore I please ask you to consider my project urgently. So that we can take up the rehabilitation for the children who are going through a psychological trauma in their lives. As the whole world is calling for providing some relief for Tsunami victims I think it will be meaningful at this juncture to start the project for these needy children.
Please do pray for all of us, as there is fresh caution of Tsunami attacking the coastal areas of South India. People are all living in fear and agony. If you please need any clarification or need few photographs NEST Relief work in Nagapattnam and Cuddalore areas we will be obliged to send you immediately. Looking for you reply.
Regards
