Gad El Maleh : "Décalages"
After enjoying the one-man show "La Vie Normale" by Gad El Maleh, i was thirsty for more, so i went and rented a DVD of an older show he did called "Décalages".
To keep it short i'll just describe it in one word: hilarious.
I loved the sketches about Montreal & McDonald's the most, they were so funny.
I'm hoping to see his latest movie "Chouchou" soon. Will let you know what i think of it when i do.
it's amazing that comic Jew artistes, as El Maleh, Elie Semoun, Elie Kacou, etc... make always sketches where they mock the arabs...

But well, i don't think they always mock just arabs, i mean in "Décalages" for example Gad mocks Arabs, Canadians and French alike.
But maybe his mockery of the Arabs stands out more because he's from Morroco and because people have this stereotype image of arabs that he uses to portray his characters and make them laugh.
It's comedy, and although it does enforce that wrong stereotype image of arabs, i wouldn't read much into it.
I don't think he or anyone else does it on purpose, it's just a winning formula they found that makes the audience laugh and which they use whenever they have a lack of ideas.
He doesn't make fun of arabs, he makes fun of Moroccans... which he is. The humor in his first show is VERY based on moroccan culture, he uses a lot of arabic jokes or things that only moroccans will understand, his second show expands a bit and you will notice he speaks almost only in french and his show is written for a more french audience.
