16/10/05 : Episode 1 : Stage 2 : Future Arab SuperStar

The first episode from the second stage of Arab SuperStar on Future TV just ended.

95 candidates passed to this second stage after the many auditions, and only 20 will come out of this second stage, after 3 rounds of selection.

In this episode, the candidates were split into groups and each candidate sang individually on stage.
The judges didn’t give any immediate feedback, they just took notes for later discussion.

After all the candidates finished singing, the judges met together to choose the first set of candidates to leave.

25 candidates left, leaving 70 to compete in the second round of this stage. In the second round, the candidates will be performing in duos on stage.

There were a number of people who obviously didn’t belong and who were just lucky to have gotten this far in the first place, just like there were people who were afraid or sick or having a bad day.
On the other hand, there were people who stood out and who I think will make it to the next stage.

There was a big number of Tunisians and many of them passed and really deserved to. That’s really cool and something I’m happy about.

I can’t wait for next week’s episode; The duets should be really fun.

I just finished watching it as well. I like the way the “cleaning up” is being done this year. Even though its a result of the events that happend in Lebanon, they did work for the benefit of the program in selecting the best superstar.

I’m curious if a lady made it through or not. They kinda went too quick with the annoucments at the end. She did a great performance singing the opening song for oum kolthoum’s tv series.

Thanks for a great blog. I’ve been keeping up with it for a while :)

I just finished watching too. So wait theres no semi finals this year? Their just gonna make a top 20 right away?

Yeah this sucks I don’t like the new format for SS, last year was good because everyone went straight through to semi finals because the middlw east is VERY big, but this year they are offering VERY LITTLE CHOICE, we won’t have much choice over the talent that comes through this season.

My main favourites so far are: Mohamed Daqdouq

This year the selection is going much like how they do it in France and the US, and I personally think it’s better.

From what I understood, the next stage will be for the audience to select who passes to the finals.
So, the audience selection stage exists, only on a smaller level, which could be better with them being limited to the best voices.

As only 20 candidates will be passing to the third round, I’m guessing that maybe they will be cut in half by the audience votes before the finals begin, but this is just my guess.
