Peter Jackson On Board For The Hobbit
Great news came out today that Peter Jackson, director of the "Lord Of The Rings" trilogy, will be will taking part in the making of "The Hobbit," the prequel to the great series, as well as a sequel to it, after settling disputes with New Line Cinema over LOTR residuals.
MGM and New Line will co-finance and co-distribute the two films, “The Hobbit” and a sequel to it, with New Line distributing in North America and MGM internationally.
Peter Jackson and his wife Fran Walsh will serve as Executive Producers of these two films based on “The Hobbit.” Both films are to be shot simultaneously, with the first film to be released in 2010 and the second in 2011.
New Line and Jackson had been at odds over payments on the LOTR series, which grossed $2.9 billion worldwide from 2001 to 2004. It also captured 17 Academy Awards, including an 11-category sweep for 2003's "Return of the King."
It's still unclear whether Jackson will direct the films or not, but I'm personally keeping my fingers crossed in hope he'll be creating the same cinematic magic we saw in the LOTR trilogy.
