Nicolas Sarkozy Wins French Presidential Elections

So, yesterday was big presidential election day in France, and Nicolas Sarkozy won; he got 53% of the vote.

I was expecting this, and it came at no surprise to me; I haven't followed the campaigns closely, because after all it is not a story that is of any special importance to me, but I caught some bits and pieces of debates or talk shows here and there, and Sarkozy is simply put a better salesperson and speaker than Ségolène Royal; even though it's obvious he's just playing on all sides and trying to fakely warm up to all constituencies to win more votes, he just sold himself better, and that's what politics is all about today, how much better you are at lying and making yourself out to be something you really aren't.

Sarkozy will be wasting no time in pushing through the reforms he has on his agenda, from shaking up France's labor market to the very serious issues of law and order, and of course immigration.

In his victory speech yesterday, he made the point to tell his "American friends that they can rely on our friendship ... France will always be next to them when they need us." So, yeah, another ally of the Bush administration has sprung into power.

A lot of people are unhappy about him becoming president in France and outside of it, but well I guess another big number of people are happy about it, or else he wouldn't have won, would he now?

What I know is that France needs a good shake-up in a number of areas, what I don't know is whether it would make any difference whether Sarkozy or Royal won; in our world of today, in its sorry state, I'm starting to think it wouldn't.

I agree with you about that. It' not so easy for a country to change the way others think of it, or to repair damaged relationships. I doubt it would have made much difference who was elected, outside of France. IF Sarkosy changes France's past foreign policy in any dramatic way, France will acquire an even bigger reputation for being untrustworthy than it already has.

Ameen 3alek. Wallahi, every word is true.

I personally would have prefered the female to win, even though I haven't been following this whole thing closely. But a female that has emotion and feeling and is a little sensative about issues, is far more better than a man with nothing but aggression and violence. This guy sold himself by sucking up and standing in the bright light with a halo drawn on top of his head. It was obvious that things were going to work his way. He was playing his game right.
I still wanted the female to win, because hse was more honest, natural and simple. Personally I don't rest on this guy. He seems like a player. The type that does more of talking, than doing. And the type that doesn't do things honestly, and will only do them if there are strings attached so he could benefit from the deal.

Only God knows how much I hate polotics!!

If this guy is a Bushite then one has to really feel sorry for France, but you get for what you ask. All one can say Good luck to France they might need it.
