An Other Cup - Yusuf Islam
Yesterday, while cruising through the music section at Géant, I came across Yusuf Islam's (Previously known as "Cat Stevens") comeback album "An Other Cup".
I've been wanting to buy this album ever since I heard of its existence, and even more so after the reviews I read for it, so naturally I grabbed it right away.
Before I get into what I think of this album, I'd like to proudly confess that I am a really big fan of Cat Stevens' music.
I remember, as a kid in Zimbabwe, at "Alexandra Park School", we used to sing "Morning Has Broken" in the school hall in the mornings; that was my first encounter with his music.
I was introduced to his other works through my dad who is a big fan too, and so I came to know of great songs like "Wild World", "Father & Son", "Peace Train"...etc., which are on my list of favourite songs to this very day.
Back to his new album, which comes forty years after his debut album "Matthew & Son", Yusuf picks up just where he left; listening to all his music, you'd never guess there was an almost 30 year gap in between.
What I love about his music is the simplicity of it all, the beautiful and catchy tunes, the deep and inspirational meanings and lyrics, his warm smooth voice; it just takes you on an amazing musical ride and reminds you of what songs should really be like.
My favourite songs off this album are: "Midday", "Heaven/Where True Love Goes", "Maybe There's A World", "In The End" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". Still the other songs on the album are equally as great.
I totally recommend listening to this album, it's a very delightful and pleasing experience.
My score for it: a perfect 10/10.

---Ca you make follow this letter to Yusuf Islam please---
My name is AMADEUS. I loved Cat Steven but I love Ysuf Islam even more. There was a time in my youth that the only pleasure in life was to listen to your songs and play them on my cheap guitar! I was contemplating suicide, but that pleasure kept me alive, until the day God met with me… There were guns in the basement where I lived, I wanted to take my life.. no happyness whatsoever, no goal, no meaning in life; I was always mad; never smiling. Death lingered above my head.. One night I was to get one of those guns, desperation was so heavy on my heart that I fell my face flat on the floor and cried : ‘’God if you do exist, do something right now…’’ Suddenly I felt a presence about the height of the seiling, and as it came down slowly, it enveloped me with so much love.. that presence was so real, conforting, apaising and so warm to my heart… I realised that it was not a thing, but a person.. the person of God reaching down to a boy’s heart ready to give up… I wept all the tears of a suffering life, and when I rose up, I was a new creation! I had hope, I had a goal, I had a God!! I have preached the Gospel ever since.
I have listened to your new albulm : ‘’Another Cup’’, (beutiful work as usual). Cat Steven asked many questions in his songs, and Ysuf Islam now answers many of them. There is hope in your lyrics; precious hope. In fact, I write only to tell you to keep on doing just that. The hope of finding peace, meaning and mercy is, I do beleive, the essence of your calling on this earth. Each of us have to do what he does best.
After many years I realise that in this world, peace is unwanted… The first well intended idiot can come and destroy in a single minute what took many years to edified! So I learned my lesson. I learned that a good word to a soul will endure forever… A single good word to a suffering soul in a tresor in heaven where nobody can reache to destroy.
It is so easy to write a check… so easy… but God dosen’t need our money; He needs us.
P .S . : Will you grant me the favor of a little note from your hand? Come on, make someone very happy today.
May God bless you with all needed blessings for you and your precious family.
Brother AMADEUS
I wonder how many Cat Stevens/Yusuf fans realized that part of "Heaven, where love goes" came from a small segment at the end of "Foreigner Suite."
I rank it among his best songs ever.
He's Cat Stevens? Oh god, I never realized that!
