Green Party is born in Tunisia
A new political party was born Friday, March 3rd, in Tunisia. The new formation, named “the Green Party for Progress,” (the PVP) is Tunisia’s ninth legal party.
Mr Mongi Khammassi, secretary general of the newly-formed party, said in a statement today his formation “will be a space open to all sincere people and patriotic Tunisians desiring to contribute to the progress of the country, within legality and respect for the tenets of the republican system.”
He added, “our party will endeavour to promote environmental awareness and sensitization as to the importance of such an awareness in anchoring a pro-environment culture in the lives of citizens and groups of society.”
The party will also “struggle against all forms of natural imbalances,” he said.
Mr Mongi Khamassi, the secretary general of the PVP, is a liberal activist and a member of Parliament.

The Greenest Skyscrapers In The WorldI've met this guy about a year ago and he told me that. Fopefully his dream became true now and he may make some pressure when it's needed with the name of the party.
Posted by: Marouen at March 6, 2006 11:09 AMGreetings, what kind of pressure is need in the name of the party? sorry i don't understand your statement Marouen. Is this new party elected?
Green, yellow, left or right does not matter. if the these parties have no viable political agenda, then they won't fly period !
In the name of the tree and earth, i can start a party, but that's not what the average citizen would vote for. if the green party has no solid agenda for progressive social policies, fical policies and development overall, then it's a void party.
Besides, all parties that are currently represented in 'la chambre des deputés' have some sort of environmental clause in their platform.
I personally don't believe in pure Green parties, especially for developing countries like ours.
