Microsoft Buys Out Opera ?
According to CoolTechZone, an insider at Microsoft revealed that Microsoft Corp., the world’s largest software maker, has acquired Opera Software, makers of the Opera browser. The insider reported that both Microsoft and Google were trying to bid on Opera, but in the end, the software maker took the lead.
It seems that, at the moment, the deal is almost through with Microsoft and Opera planning on locations for the browser’s research and development centers throughout the world. One of such locations includes India; other locations at this time are unknown.
Now that's a surprise that came out of nowhere.
If this turns out to be true, then I think it's a smart move by Microsoft. Opera have a very nice browser that is way better than Internet Explorer and could help Microsoft fight off the Firefox threat with the proper marketing thrown behind it.
Opera's mobile browser is a big plus too as it's the best browser on portable devices up to now.
I hope they keep Opera's innovative team on as they've been setting the trends for the browser market over the past years with their cool ideas.

Well, I guess only time will tell.
I don't really trust what spokes-people say anymore, and I don't believe rumours either.
I posted this because I thought it was an interesting idea. It remains to be seen though if there is any truth to it at all.
Posted by: MMM at December 23, 2005 05:15 PMIt would have been a lot nicer if google bought opera. Its my favorite browser for now. If MS is buying it they will turn in into something more MS-Freindly and I'll have to go hunting for another browser...
Posted by: 3ammo at December 24, 2005 03:44 PMOpera is excellent, I just hope MS dont devolve it if the rumours are true.
