English Al-Jazeera in 2006

One more year to wait…

Al Jazeera has announced it will launch an English-language channel at the start of 2006, as it named a senior management team.

British national Nigel Parsons will head operations at the company’s Doha headquarters, while Trish Carter, formerly of New Zealand television, will head a new Asia desk in Kuala Lumpur.

Sue Philips, formerly employed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp, will take charge of European coverage in London, while Will Stebbins, formerly with Associated Press Television News, will head a North American desk in Washington.

Since Al Jazeera started, I thought the best thing they could do is start an English language channel. So when they started talking about the possibility, I thought it was great, and I couldn’t wait for it to launch.

What excites me about it is the fact that it will present news from another point of view for the whole world.

I thought it was supposed to launch this year, and they’ve had recruiting ads up on their Arab site for some time now.
Anyway, I hope it’s worth the wait.

  1. The struggle between ElJazeera and CNN is becoming really interesting.

Some time ago website of Eljazeera was hosted by akamai, an american company, which refused to renew the hosting agreement with EJ. EJ changed its website to a french server based at Nice which has been DoS attacked by NSA guys, untill they gave up hosting el jazeera.
I don’t know who actually is hosting EJ.
    frightening isn’t it?
(this story is from my prof at college)

  2. do you think that al jazeera English broadcasting will look like the arab programs I’m afraid that the contents and the comments will be more politically correct toward the west!

  3. Adib, I don’t think the Google Adsense ads are blocked. They work fine for me.
As for if it’s interesting or not to publish them, well it all depends on the number of visitors and how much they click ๐Ÿ˜›

Hannibal, yes I know the whole story behind the hosting of Al Jazeera’s site. It’s amazing how a country like the US that says it’s promoting freedom of speech around the world puts so much effort into stopping Al Jazeera.

Zizou, I worry about that too. That’s why I wished the management and editorial staff would be arabs.
Anyway, I hope it doesn’t make a difference and that Al Jazeera will stay committed to showing all sides of the story.
