No Internet Cafés in Djerba?!

As I mentioned before, we spent the past weekend in the island of Djerba in the south of Tunisia.

Anyway, even though this trip was meant as a break from our everyday life and the complicated life of the city, we found ourselves looking for an internet café to send some e-cards for Mother's day, blog, or whatever.

To our amazement we didn't find one single internet café. Of course, I'm no local of the island, and I don't know every street and alley, but we did look around a lot in Houmt Souk, Midoun and the touristic area and found nothing.
We asked people on the street, police and the receptionist at the hotel, but no one knew of any around.

I think it's very weird.
I could swear that the last time I was in Djerba, I saw a couple of internet cafés here and there, I just couldn't find them.

Anyway, Djerba needs internet cafés.
Young entrepreneurs should jump on this occasion especially that there's no competition around.

I've been dying to go to Djerba ever since I watched Moufida Tlatli's "Mawsam al-Rijaal" (great movie!). I will go even if there's no internet!

WALEG, well of course being from Djerba, you know a lot more about it than I do :)
Anyway, in the end, it's great that there are internet cafés there, unlike Les Berges du Lac that doesn't have one single internet café.

Chanad, nice to have you here :)
Hope to see you more often.

And yeah, you must visit Djerba someday, it's a really great place.

And I share your opinion on the movie. Really good stuff.

Oh and according to WALEG, it turns out there are internet cafés in Djerba. It seems I just didn't know where to look.

Waleg, concerning the fact that almost every single hotel has an internet café I have to disagree. We were staying at a very prestigious hotel that belongs to a very well known hotel chain, yet it didn’t have any internet cafés.
It’s good that it turned out there are many internet cafés, but I believe that in a place that is considered a tourist-attraction like Djerba, there should be signs or anything to guide visitors. Believe me we asked every person we could ask, from hotel employees, to policemen, to public telephone corners to citizens of Djerba, but they either didn’t know or told us there were a couple which were closed a while ago.

Anyway, as said, that doesn’t affect the fact that Djerba is one of the most beautiful places in Tunisia and a must-visit to everyone. Actually I consider myself one of Djerba’s loyal fans, and mentioning this is just to draw attention to ways to improve it, it doesn’t mean to negatively criticize it.

Hope next time you and your wife will be with us :)

Chanad, I watched that movie, it's brilliant, but believe me Djerba is even more beautiful than what the film was able to capture. Plus its people are very very sweet and kind. Inshallah you'll be able to visit it soon.
