Animals & Man

First it was mad cow disease…
Then came foot and mouth for sheep…
And now there’s bird flu…

What next ?
Fish cancer ??!!

When are humans going to realize that the more they screw with nature, the more nature is gonna screw them back ?!

Don’t design for RFPs ?

I just read an interesting post by Zeldman about why not to design on spec or in other simpler words why not to submit design proposals for RFPs (Requests for Proposals).

You can read his full post here: Don’t design on spec.

The main reasons he gives are:
– It’s a lot of unpaid work.
– Design is only partly decoration. Mainly it is problem solving. You can’t create an appropriate design because you don’t yet know what problems need to be solved.
– It’s unsafe for agency and potential client alike.

I have to agree with Zeldman on the principle, but sometimes the project is big and juicy enough to take the risk.
Of course, not any company should allow itself to take that risk and spend money on an unsure project, and even the companies that can shouldn’t always take the risk.
I think there should be a certain balance, and that these efforts and costs should be factored into the companies’ commercial efforts where a limit is set on how far they should go and how much should be spent on them.

World of Psychos

Does it ever occur to you how disordered the world is today ?

Do you ever take a moment from your busy crowded day to just pull yourself back out of the crowd and look around you, look at the people surrounding you, look at the world, and look at yourself ?

I do, and believe me it’s not a pleasant thing to see.
What i see is a world all mixed up in these mad lives we’re leading, and people who think they are great and perfect on the outside while they’re truly crumbled and disordered on the inside.

Really, everyone these days has a number of psychiatric problems starting from stress to anger to different flavours of complexes to sick thoughts and weird sexual inclinations to haunting baggage they’ve collected from their pasts to a billion other emotional and mental instabilities.

Sometimes i just look around me and i don’t see the people i know and their faces but instead i see the troubled twisted insides of them.
Even the people i don’t know who i see on the streets, i can just sense the instability and disorder inside of them.

I think the whole world needs help and they should come to admit it.
The idea that a psychiatrist is for mad people should change, a psychiatrist is becoming more and more of a necessity for everyone.
The one big question though is: Who is gonna help the psychiatrists because even they have problems ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyway, till the day comes when everyone admits they have issues and that they need to get them solved, we’ll just have to go on living in a world full of psychos.

Sexy MP3 Player

PhilipsThis is one of the two new audio jukeboxes (MP3 players in our words) that Philips Electronics announced at CES a couple of weeks ago.

The baby in this pic is the hdd120, which they claim is the lightest recording jukebox. It comes with 20 GB storage space, extended battery life, USB 2.0 and Direct MP3 recording.
Now that is something.

Cost, i hear you ask. They say it should cost $349.
Hmmm. By the time it gets here, that price would be multiplied by nearly 3, giving me a price tag of about 900 TDs if i’m optimistic ๐Ÿ˜›
Thank you, i’ll pass.
But still, this MP3 player is sexy and hot…

Basic : Let’s Twist Again…

Last night i watched Basic, a movie i had read about online and which critics bashed.
So, i started the movie not expecting much really, although i usually like John Travolta’s movies.

By the end of the movie, i thought the movie was quite good, although i understand why some people must have not liked it.

You know those movies where you think you’ve got everything all figured out and then it comes up with a twist ?
People usually love movies like that, but what if the person who wrote the movie is a bit over-obsessed with the idea of twisting the story ?
What if the movie goes like this:
Story –> Twist –> Twist to the twist –> Twist to the 2nd twist –> Twist to the 3rd twist –> Twist to 4th twist …etc. –> Twist to the final twist.
Well that’s what this movie does, and basically after the first few twists, i guess some people will just lose interest and let it go, especially that the initial story isn’t that strong to start with.

Anyway, being in a lazy sunday night mood, i didn’t think the movie was that bad, and i quite enjoyed it.

I’d give it a 7/10.

Tunisia 2004 : Opening Ceremony & Match

So, i was able to catch the opening ceremony and the opening match of the African Cup of Nations on TV this past saturday, and well i have to admit that the ceremony was quite a really good one.

The music was great and so was everything that came with it.
A very good effort that deserves applause.

The match that followed between Tunisia and Rwanda was ok. Tunisia scored first, with Rwanda coming back a few minutes later, and Tunisia ended it with the winning goal near the end of the match.
All in all, the team’s levels was pretty close and i honestly think they both could do better.
Anyway, the result is good for Tunisia, and hopefully this win will push them forward and give them more courage to fight harder and win in the next matches.

As one of the commentators said during the opening ceremony: The opening ceremony was a great one, and hopefully Tunisia can do a great job and win the cup giving us another great ceremony at the end of it.

3 Tunisians @ Star Academy on LBC

Well, although i still don’t have a satellite dish at home, and am disconnected from the world’s satellite TV stations, i’ve heard quite a lot about the 3 Tunisian contestants who are on the LBC version of Star Academy.

After last year’s outstanding success of SuperStar on Future Television, this year LBC hit back with Star Academy.

I wish the Tunisian contestants all the luck. And may the best win.

Bab El Web (a Tunisian portal), has created a special section that follows the steps of the Tunisian contestants. You can check it out here.

Damn Blog Spam

AAAARRRGGGHHHH !!!
I just had to go through deleting some 30+ blog comment spams right now, and i tell you, it’s definitely not the best way to start your day !
It’s a really big pain in the ass…

If i had one wish right now it’d be:
I wish that all spammers die and rot in hell where they get their asses fried a billion times for every spam message they sent !

Tunisia 2004 : African Cup of Nations

Tunisie 2004So tomorrow is the opening ceremony for Tunisia 2004, the African Cup of Nations.
I expect it to be quite cool as the same people who worked on the Korea Japan 2002 opening ceremony are working on this one.
I’m not going to the stadium, but i’ll surely try to catch it on TV.
The opening match is Tunisia vs. Rwanda.

I’m not much of a football fan really, and i only watch a few world level matches from the World Cup or the Euro, so basically, i’m not going to the stadium for any of the games, but i’m going to try to watch all the Tunisian matches from home.

I hope our Tunisian team does well. I’ve seen them play in some friendly matches lately, and they have the abilities to come out with a really good result. I think that all they need is a bit of focus and more courage to push up front and take the chances needed to score.

This is the official CAN 2004 website.
I love the logo for Tunisie 2004, but i don’t like the CAN site’s design and i hate the mascott.
